Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Fundamentals

Course length:  2 hours

Course Objective:
This course is designed to give the student a complete understanding of what SEO is and how SEO works.  After taking this class the student will be able to look at a website, both the front-end and back-end, and explain what is relevant to the search engines.  The student will also be able to identify fundamental rules used by the search engines to determine relevancy and rank.

Target Student:
This course is designed for individuals who either have a website or who manage websites/internet marketing for a third party. 

Delivery Method:
Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with some student participation.

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • describe the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • identify the difference between SEO and other types of placement/advertising
  • explain the different functions of a Search Engine Results Page (SERP)
  • have a basic understanding of HTML and how it relates to SEO
  • identify differences in the major search engines for SEO purposes
  • have a basic understanding of HTML META Tags and their relationship to SEO
  • view a website and identify which sections need to be SEO friendly

Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of internet browsers and search engine functionality.

Biography:  The instructor for this class has been working in advertising, primarily search engine marketing since 2000.  He has multiple certifications from Google and Yahoo, and has been consulting and training SEO since 2006.  His methods have helped every one of his clients achieve first page placement on the major search engines within a short period of time by utilizing simple, proven techniques.
