Behavior/Communication Styles

Course length: 2.0 day(s)

Course Description

This course earns 4 PDU’s.

Effective communication is the lifeblood of every organization. Without it, you can say goodbye to aspirations of capable leadership, teamwork, customer service – or even the ability to execute a coherent business strategy. All individuals exhibit their own method for perceiving the world around them, gathering information, making decisions, and approaching life in general. These individual methods, when not understood, can create many communication challenges across the company landscape.  A better understanding of interpersonal behavior positively affects our relationships with others, both personally and professionally.  Knowledge of the various communication behaviors and personality styles enables us to more effectively handle the communication challenges that arise, specifically between individuals who possess different preferences and styles.

Personality/Communication Styles will help participants identify their personality style and communication behavior, and recognize the kinds of tasks and situations that are easiest and most challenging within their unique personality and communication dimensions. Employees and managers will improve their communication skills by gaining a better understanding of their own unique interpersonal behavior, and effectively using that knowledge to more successfully manage personal and professional relationships.

Effective communication starts with an understanding of individual personality and communication styles. Personality/Communication Styles offers a practical and easy-to-use “language” for understanding personality styles and managing communication behavior style. Students will be assessed on both personality style and communication behavior style.  These assessments are administered in order to quickly and accurately identify a preference for one of four communication behavior styles, and one of sixteen basic personality styles.  Using the knowledge learned in class, employees and managers can better anticipate how their individual communication behavior and personality styles affect others, interpret the communication and behavior of others, improve their overall people skills, and learn how to respond appropriately in most situations, both inside and outside of the corporation.
